A host of events across the University are taking place across December. Below are some of the highlights:
Christmas carol concerts
Thursday 7 December, 6-8pm, Free.
Eleanor Rathbone Building
Institute of Irish Studies alumna, Dr Jane Davison, will launch her book in which she traces the literary influence of three Spanish writers on Irish novelist and playwright Kate O’Brien’s work.
Meet Father Christmas at Ness Gardens
Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 December,
11am-3pm, £4 – £5.
Ness Gardens
Visit Father Christmas at Ness this year to add that extra bit of magic to the festive season for little ones. Spot the naughty elves in the garden who will lead you to Father Christmas in his magical workshop and you can write a letter to the North Pole and post it too. The Garden Kiosk will also be open, serving warm drinks and snacks, and there will be festive songs performed by local singer Natalie Collins.
In last hard winter – who forgets, The frost of ninety-five?
Thursday 14 December, 1-2pm, Free.
Walbank Lecture Theatre
This talk by Professor Georgina Endfield and Dr Lucy Veale, both of the University of Liverpool, emerges from a large multi-institutional Arts and Humanities Research Council-funded project exploring historical weather events in UK history.
In this talk they will examine the usefulness of literary sources for Environmental History and will discuss the role weather plays in British literacy culture.
December Family Saturday
Saturday 16 December, 10.30-4pm, Free.
Tate Hall Museum
The final and favourite Family Saturday of the year returns. At 10.30am there will be a screening of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast: The Enchanted Christmas. From 1-4pm, you can join the gallery’s artist to design exciting new winter-themed fashions.
Entrance is free, with no booking required.
Christmas wreath making
Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 December,
10am-12pm and 2-4pm, £15.
Ness Gardens
Award-winning garden designer and florist, Pip Probert, is back to show you how to make the perfect Christmas wreath from our own Ness Gardens foliage, cones and berries. Whilst you’re creating your Christmas wreath, enjoy tea, coffee and mince pies by the roaring fire! A great way to get you in the festive mood.
