The University is looking for researchers to take part in the world’s largest festival of public science talks this May.
Pint of Science is an annual festival that takes place in cities across the globe and sees scientists chat about their latest research in pubs. In 2018 the festival will run from 14-16 May.
The University hosted Liverpool’s very first Pint of Science last year to great success. All seven events sold out, over 470 members of the public attended and over 50 members of staff and students took part.
The organisers are now looking for researchers with ideas for fun and engaging talks to take part in Pint of Science Liverpool 2018, which will take place at three city centre pubs and be based around the following themes:
- Atoms to Galaxies – physics, chemistry, maths, astronomy
- Beautiful Mind – neuroscience, psychology and psychiatry
- Our Body – medicine, human biology, health
There are two ways to get involved – either by being an event speaker (open to everyone at PhD level and above) and giving a 20 minute talk about your research or by taking part in ‘Shots of Science’ (open to Masters/PhD students and early career researchers), where you will be challenged to explain your research in just 2 -3 minutes.
“We’re excited to be hosting Pint of Science again this year and are looking forward to delivering another series of engaging events,” says Public Engagement Officer Laura Winters, who is coordinating the Liverpool events.
“Pint of Science is a brilliant opportunity to share our research with the public in a social and informal setting, and I would encourage as many people as possible to put forward ideas for this year’s programme.”

There are a limited number of spaces in the programme so applications will be shortlisted in mid February and applicants will be notified of the outcome by early March.
