Students from our Flight Simulation Group will be attempting to fly around the UK on Tuesday, 27 February in aide of the North West Air Ambulance Charity.
The flight will take place in our flight simulator, which is based in the Harrison Hughes building on campus. Students and staff are invited to watch the event, which kicks off at 10am and is expected to take around 30 hours to complete.
A total of 50 students are set to take part in the simulation. Each leg will be flown by a student pilot and a co-pilot team. The simulated flight will be conducted in line with real aviation regulations and students have been learning the techniques used by pilots – such as flight planning and navigation – in preparation for the challenge.
Live weather data will be fed into the simulator, which means our students will also have to take these changing conditions into account when planning and executing their flights. Other students will be performing additional roles, such as air traffic control and flight dispatch.
