Your donations are changing lives – Mencap Liverpool

Mencap Liverpool is an independently run charity that supports people with a learning disability in Liverpool.

This year, Mencap Liverpool is one of our four National Student Survey charities and for every survey entered, we donate £1.

We recently caught up with Mencap Liverpool to find out how your donations are being used to contribute towards their befriending service.

Lewis

Lewis and his befriender Becca are now one of Mencap Liverpool’s longest-serving befriending pairs. The pair have been meeting for years and enjoy going out for lunch, going to the cinema and playing crazy golf.

Speaking about their friendship, Lewis said: “I like meeting up with her once a week. We have a laugh and she is friendly. I like going to different places with her which I wouldn’t do on my own. It’s made me feel more confident. Before I met her, I never had anyone to go out with. I feel happy after I have seen her as I have a good time.”

Anne-Marie

Anne Marie has been socialising with her befriender for nine weeks. This new relationship has given Anne-Marie more confidence around other people and Anne-Marie is now experiencing fewer problems with anxiety when the pair spend time together.

Anne-Marie said: “My befriender is fantastic, she looks after me and I like meeting her.  I love the befriending scheme”.
