Liverpool Lime Street station is receiving its biggest upgrade since the 19th century. In order to complete the second phase of work, there will be changes to journeys through Liverpool Lime Street station affecting travel between 2 June – 29 July 2018.
The upgrade will:
- Enable an extra three services per hour to/from Lime Street, including new direct services to Scotland from 2019.
- Provide two new station platforms.
- Remodel station platforms – Longer, better managed platforms will accommodate longer trains, helping to provide more space and seats for passengers.

Information is provided below to show you how your journey will change during Lime Street station’s major upgrade (2 June – 29 July 2018).
It will be important to check journey times up to a month before, in the run up to and just before you travel as they may change. More information on why times are unavailable now can be found via the National Rail website.
Outline of the travel plan
Travel information, including connecting train services, is provided below. This includes advice on the simplest way to complete your journey during Lime Street’s major upgrade.
Journeys between Liverpool Lime Street and Birmingham, London, Crewe, Runcorn, Manchester Oxford Road/Airport/Piccadilly, Sheffield, Nottingham and Norwich
Services will start/terminate at Liverpool South Parkway. Regular connecting train services will operate between Liverpool South Parkway and Moorfields station in Liverpool City Centre.*

Journeys between Liverpool Lime Street and Blackpool and Preston (including connections from Lancaster, Carlisle and Scotland)
From 11 June – 13 July, between 6am and 8pm, a direct train service will operate between Blackpool North/Preston and Liverpool Lime Street.
From 2 – 10 June, 14 – 29 July, or after 8pm during the period above, there are two options:
- Change at Preston station for a train service to Ormskirk. Train connections are available between Ormskirk and Moorfields station in Liverpool City Centre.
- Travel by train between Blackpool North/Preston and Huyton station. Change at Huyton for regular, high quality rail replacement bus services to/from Liverpool Lime Street.
Journeys between Liverpool Lime Street and Newcastle, Scarborough, Huddersfield, Leeds and York
Services will start/terminate at Manchester Victoria station:
From 11 June – 13 July, between 6am and 8pm, travel directly by train between Manchester Victoria and Liverpool Lime Street.
Between 2 – 10 June, 14 – 29 July and after 8pm during the period above, there are two options:
- Travel by train between Manchester Victoria and Huyton station. Change at Huyton for regular, high quality rail replacement bus services to/from Liverpool Lime Street.
- Change at Manchester Piccadilly for connecting services to Liverpool South Parkway. Regular connecting train services will operate between Liverpool South Parkway and Moorfields station in Liverpool City Centre.*
