Leading Shakespearean actor brings his one-man show to Liverpool

Michael Pennington

“All the world’s a stage” wrote William Shakespeare, and on Friday, May 18 the University’s Victoria Gallery and Museum will be the stage for a one night only celebration of the planet’s most famous playwright.

As part of the Open House 2018, prolific Shakespearean actor Michael Pennington is performing his acclaimed one-man show Sweet William – a journey through the life and work of William Shakespeare.

Michael co-founded the English Shakespeare Company and has played many leading roles for the Royal Shakespeare Company, of which he is an Honorary Associate Artist.

Sweet William features anecdotes about his experience of playing various characters on stage and performance excerpts from some of The Bard’s greatest work, including old favourites such as Hamlet, Antony and Cleopatra, and Richard III.

With an informal atmosphere and plenty of humour, the show offers something for everyone, so book early to avoid disappointment as tickets are limited.

Michael’s impressive stage career runs alongside a variety of screen roles, which have included ‘commander of the second Death Star’ in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi and Michael Foot in The Iron Lady.

Open House is a five-day festival of talks, performances, exhibitions and interactive experiences taking place from 14-18 May showcasing great ideas, knowledge and culture.
