The Research Design Services North West (RDS NW), of which the University of Liverpool is a member, has been awarded over £5 million to continue to provide advice on research design to researchers in the region.
A new contract of more than £50 million from the National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) has been awarded to 10 NHS organisations and higher education institutions, with proven expertise in research methodology and design, to provide the Research Design Service (RDS).
10 regional Research Design Services (RDS) will together form a national network, liaising with each other to develop a consistent service to the research community.
RDS NW provides advice on research design to researchers in the North West who are developing proposals for national, peer-reviewed funding competitions for applied health or social care research.
The University of Liverpool together with the University of Manchester, support from the University of Central Lancashire and lead applicant Lancaster University has been awarded over £5 million in funding to continue to host, as it has done for over eight years, the RDS in the North West of England. This will be for a further five years from 1 October 2018.
Of the award Mark Gabbay, Professor of General Practice, Director NIHR Collaboration for Leadership in Applied Health Research and Care North West Coast, Associate Director RDS NW, University of Liverpool said: “The aim of the service is to increase the number of successful applications for funding for applied people-focused health and social care research.
“This funding will enable our academics, alongside colleagues from the Universities of Manchester, Central Lancashire and Lancaster, to continue offering free and confidential advice to health and social care researchers on funding applications to national, peer-reviewed funding competitions.”
