University professor honoured with ‘Distinguished Service Award’

The Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO) has presented Professor Sarah Coupland with a ‘Distinguished Service Award’ at the Association’s annual meeting.

ARVO is the largest eye and vision research organisation in the world. It has helped to advance research into understanding the visual system and preventing, treating and curing its disorders. Over 12,000 researchers from 75 countries are members.

Professor Coupland, who was ARVO’s immediate past Vice-President, leads the University’s Liverpool Ocular Oncology Research Group (LOORG) and is Director of the North West Cancer Research Centre (NWCRC@UoL).

Of the award Professor Coupland, said: “I am honoured to have been selected to receive such an important award. I have served on a number of ARVO committees over the last 10 years, including the Board of Trustees as the Anatomy-Pathology-Oncology Trustee, the last 5 years. It has been a great organisation to work for: I will miss the ARVO staff and fellow board members”.

Professor Coupland, who is based at the University’s Institute of Translational Medicine, is also the George Holt Chair in Pathology and an Honorary Consultant Histopathologist.

The announcement regarding the award was made at the ARVO 2018 Annual Meeting in Honolulu.
