Postgraduate researchers are invited to register for a number of free training sessions and workshops that are taking place across the University throughout June.
The events, which are organised by the LDC Development Team, will be delivered by external speakers and aim to help postgraduate researchers develop advanced research skills.

Problem Solving Workshop: Tuesday, 5 June
Dr Adrian West co-founded the virtual reality research group at the University of Manchester and now facilitates thinking skills for corporations, government bodies, and universities. His workshop will help you improve your approaches to problem solving in research and review how you make effective decisions.

Introduction to Project Management: Thursday, 14 June
Dr Fraser Robertson has delivered project management in many large scale projects, commercially and for higher education institutions. His intense one-day workshop will introduce project management skills, essential planning and managing academic and research projects.

Coaching, getting published and writing a scientific article: Various dates
Dr Jen Allanson is a former lecturer at Lancaster University and has wide experience delivering workshops for postgraduate researchers, both at Liverpool and for the national organisation Vitae. Jen is delivering several sessions in June, including an introduction to coaching, and two sessions to help researchers develop effective techniques to start publishing their research.

Dr Pete Moore from ThinkWrite has extensive experience in writing and editing, winning several national awards and has created a successful company delivering workshops for postgraduate research students. His workshop will help attendees write effective grant proposals.

Time Management and Motivation: Thursday, 21 June
Delivered by two postgraduate researchers, this workshop will introduce you to a number of time management techniques that can be applied flexibly to your work. It aims to help you feel more in control of your time through group discussion, self-reflection and psychological theory.

Improving your Social Wellbeing Researchers using Design Thinking: Wednesday, 20 June
A new workshop by Dr Aimee Blackledge.
Establishing your emotional needs and developing your social wellbeing during the PhD is equally as important as taking care of your intellectual needs. This workshop will give you an opportunity to develop and implement a personal project that will support you in improving your wellbeing.

Thesis Writing Retreats: Tuesday 26 June, Wednesday 27 June
To help those already writing up their thesis, we have two Thesis Writing Retreats. These retreats, aimed at final year PhD students, will offer mutual support and useful tips and tricks, as well as to help you focus on thesis writing away from the usual distractions.

LDC Development programme
LDC Development programme runs throughout the academic year with activities to support personal and professional development of postgraduate researchers, to help them develop the generic skills to become a successful researcher and make preparation for their career after their PhD.
