The winners of this year’s Faculty of Health and Life Sciences Poster Day – which gives postgraduate research students the chance to showcase their work and gain feedback from peers and research professionals – have been unveiled.
Commenting on the event, Neil Blake, Faculty Director of Postgraduate Research for the Faculty, said: “This year’s poster day was a great success. We had a great turn out and our students did a fantastic job presenting their research. The standards were so high, the judges had a tough job picking the winners.”
Winners of the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences Poster Day
Nathan Allen from the Institute of Translational Medicine was the overall winner of the day, and received a £100 Amazon voucher for his poster on ‘Unbiased screening for Deubiquitinases with roles in cancer-associated Hippo signalling’.
Benjamin Hall was awarded the Best Overall MRes prize and received a £50 Amazon voucher for his poster titled, ‘Reoperation in glioblastoma: is it worth it?’.
The runners up each received a £50 Amazon voucher:

- Danielle O’Loughlin, PhD student in the Institute of Ageing & Chronic Disease
Poster Title: ‘Nanotopography of substrates directs the deposition of organised fibrillar collagen by coneal stromal cells’
The winners of the Student Vote award each received a £25 Amazon voucher:
- Asmaa Almohanna, PhD student in the Institute of Translational Medicine
Poster Title: ‘How Does Extracellular Acidification Increase Mouse Uterine Contractions? How much do we know?’
- Panupong Thongprem, PhD student in the Institute of Integrative Biology
Poster title: ‘Torix group Rickettsia in aquatic insects: a common and underestimated symbiont.’
- James Torpey, PhD student in the Institute of Integrative Biology
Poster title: ‘The Inhibition of Alpha Synuclein Aggregation Through the Use of Novel Peptide-Based Inhibitors’
