Campus Support team help `Cycles for Caribbean’ project

The University’s Campus Support staff teamed up with Merseyside Police this weekend to help with the `Cycles for the Caribbean’ project, which donates the bikes to the children of the families who had their homes and possessions destroyed by hurricanes Irma and Maria

On Friday, Campus support staff Ray Breen, Ryan Hyland and Chris Hedges attended the North Docks to work with Dan Holdsworth from Merseyside Police, who had arranged for all the unclaimed bikes in the possession of local Police stations to be donated to the project.

The Campus Support staff were there to permanently etch the bikes with a unique security code so any lost bikes can be quickly repatriated with their owners.

Ray, Ryan and Chris managed to etch over 150 bikes in a short space of time before they were loaded onto a container on Saturday to set sail for the British Virgin Islands were Dan’s counterparts will take over.

Ray Breen said: “We were asked to help out as Dan was aware that etching bikes is a service we regularly carry out for all our staff and student cyclists.

“We enjoyed being involved with the project and we were really touched when we saw some of the toddler bikes we had to work on.

“We would like to thank the FRCS management team for supporting and funding our involvement with the Cycles for the Caribbean project and we hope we can help the project to grow in the future.”
