The University has risen nine places in the QS World University Rankings from 173 to 164.
The rankings, which include 1,000 of the world’s leading universities, place Liverpool 23 in the Russell Group and 26 out of 78 UK universities listed. The US and UK continue to dominate the top 20 positions with Cambridge, Oxford, UCL and Imperial making the top 10. Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) tops the rankings.
The QS World University Rankings is an annual league table based on four key pillars: research, teaching, employability and internationalisation. The methodology consists of six indicators: academic reputation, employer reputation, citations per faculty, Student Staff ratio, international staff and international students.
In the latest ranking, the University has seen particular improvements in the academic reputation and employer reputation indicators. The University rose 31 places to 191 for academic reputation, Liverpool’s employer reputation rose 15 places to 244.
The improvement in reputation score follows a 12-month campaign run by the University aimed at building further on Liverpool’s reputation for research excellence among the international academic community.
There were drops in score for Student Staff Ratio which was down 16 places to 280, for citations per staff which was down nine places to 339, and for the number of international students which was down 13 places to 80. The score for the number of international staff improved by five places to 180.
