Following an Independent Review, the University has welcomed the final report of the Expert Review Panel tasked with reviewing the Concordat to Support the Career Development of Researchers. The report includes several recommendations on how to update and improve the Concordat and enhance working conditions for researchers.
The University’s Concordat Action Plan aligns with the principles of the UK and the Concordat and the European Charter for Researchers and Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers. The Concordat is a framework for the support, development and management of researchers’ careers, setting out clear standards that research staff can expect from the University, as well as their responsibilities as researchers.
The Action Plan supports the institution’s European Commission HR Excellence in Research Award, an external recognition marking the University as ‘one of the best’ for research staff development.
The University welcomes the recent revision to the Concordat by the independent Expert Review Panel, and the inclusion of a number of Liverpool case studies as exemplars of best practice across the national Higher Education Sector.
Professor Anthony Hollander, Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Research and Impact, commented: “I am delighted to see Liverpool’s initiatives in relation to supporting researchers’ careers being recognised at a national level by an Independent Review Panel. The University’s ambitious Research and Impact Strategy seeks to enhance Liverpool’s position as the go-to place for established and aspiring research leaders through the quality of our environment and support.”
The Concordat Steering Group, chaired by Professor Hollander, continues to be a driver for change in relation to Liverpool’s commitment to research staff. In addition, The Academy’s wider range of events and interventions are aimed at developing the capabilities of all research staff to meet the University’s strategic objectives. The Revised Concordat can be accessed here and is currently open for consultation.
The University’s Research Staff Association will be facilitating a meeting on Tuesday, 2 October 2018 to collate consultation responses, with contributions welcome from all staff.
