The arrangement between the University of Liverpool and Laureate Online Education, BV (Laureate) for the operation of the University’s online education brand, Liverpool Online, will be extended until April 2021, after which date the parties have decided to explore separate future directions in online education. The University will continue to develop Liverpool Online aligned to its World top 100 ambitions and Strategy 2026 by drawing on distinctive strengths in education and research and with a primarily international focus.
Professor Gavin Brown, Pro Vice Chancellor for Education at the University of Liverpool said: “The University of Liverpool and Laureate are pioneers in online education and we are proud of what we have accomplished together. Online education has changed greatly since we established Liverpool Online nearly two decades ago and we have taken the decision to explore different strategic directions.
As the University of Liverpool works towards its goal of becoming a world top 100 institution, online education will continue to be a priority. Our immediate focus is to ensure that our Liverpool Online students, many of whom go on to accomplish great things, continue to receive the high quality educational experience for which we are recognised.
Making our degrees available online is hugely important for students who would otherwise face significant barriers to participation. The achievements of our students are testimony to the benefit this brings to individuals and the associated positive impact that they go on to create in their home countries and communities.”
Both parties remain committed to delivering a high quality experience for students and will continue to work collaboratively until April 2021, to enable current students to complete their taught modules under the present arrangement. In addition, new student enrolments to the present portfolio will be paused from November 2018 to April 2021, in order to focus entirely on supporting present students to progress to successful completion of their studies.
At the end of this agreement, the University will assume full responsibility for Liverpool Online and the parties will work together to assure the seamless transfer of any remaining students to the University’s new arrangements.
