Father Christmas delivers University gifts to Alder Hey

Alder Hey Children’s Hospital and the University have been working together to ensure Father Christmas brought some festive cheer to the Children of Alder Hey.

Donated toys and gifts were collected across the University as part of the Alder Hey Toy appeal, with members of Facilities, Residential and Commercial Services volunteering to ensure Father Christmas could once again don his suit and groom his beard in time for his big appearance at Alder Hey.

The children and staff of Alder Hey were pleased to see the special guest, and although Father Christmas’ boots were a bit on the large size, he managed just fine as he made his rounds across the wards.

University Staff were on board to help out Father Christmas deliver gifts.

Interim Director of Facilities, Residential and Commercial Service, Alex Beedle said: “We’ve been really pleased to help out and deliver gifts donated across the University to the Children of Alder Hey. We’ve seen some wonderful examples of staff volunteering their time and effort within my own department and the University as whole.

It’s great to give back something and continue our strong partnership with Alder Hey. This sort of initiative has also given us a chance to see the fantastic work staff do at the hospital and what can be a challenging time for the children and their families.”

Alder Hey Volunteer coordinator Jess Robinson said: “At Alder Hey we strive to make Christmas as magical as possible for our patients and their families.

“We organise a range of events and activities during the festive period to encourage everyone to get into the Christmas spirit.

“But none of this would be possible without the support of our volunteers and partner organisations like the University of Liverpool.

“We are truly grateful to everyone from the university who donated toys through Alder Hey Charity and gave their time to support Christmas at Alder Hey!”

The University and Alder Hey would like to thank all those who donated gifts this Christmas.
