Liverpool Varsity – a competition between our students and students from Liverpool John Moores University – is taking place next week.
AU President Megan said: “Varsity is one of the biggest events of Sport Liverpool’s calendar against our local rival, LJMU. For the past six years, we have won the cup. Come down to support our teams in their fixtures, and cheer us on as we hope to retain the title for the seventh year of Varsity Champions!”
The annual competition kicks off on Monday, 1 April at 6pm with the men’s second team hockey fixture at our Wyncote Sports Ground facility, alongside karate, swimming, trampolining and volleyball. Three days of 37 competitive sporting fixtures follow and you’ll be able to watch our teams battle it out at venues across the city, including here on campus in the Sports Centre.
This year, the main event is the women’s and the men’s first team basketball fixtures, which is taking place at Greenbank Sports Academy. This event is ticketed and you can book your tickets via our Fixr site. Your student ID is required.
University of Liverpool and Liverpool John Moores University have been competing in the Varsity competition since 1993. It is the annual coming together of the two largest universities in Liverpool and is hosted by Sport Liverpool and Liverpool SU. We’re the current holders of the prestigious trophy.
