Improvement works will be taking place at the Harold Cohen Library from early June and will run throughout the summer. Once completed, the project will deliver:
- 230 extra study spaces, with additional laptops available for loan
- An improved and enlarged Post Graduate Study room
- Improved air conditioning
- Improved toilet facilities on the lower ground floor
Work will begin with the book stacks and study areas at the back of the library at the beginning of June and will run throughout the summer. Part of this work involves moving book stocks to the lower floors in the first two weeks of June. Work will generally take place between 8:30 and 5pm on weekdays. The main reading rooms and PC areas will be largely unaffected throughout the summer.
Laura Dunn, Associate Director, Operations and Administration said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for us to respond directly to student feedback and create the additional study spaces and improved environment that students want.
“We know that some of our students will still need to use the Library during this time and we are putting in place a number of measures to minimise any disruption”
Arrangements include: working with the Guild to continue the popular Library on Tour space throughout June, additional and extended book loans over summer, and extra book orders as necessary. The Sydney Jones Library will be open as usual, should students prefer to use this space.
Students who need books for upcoming exams are encouraged to check these out as soon as possible. Loans will be extended throughout the summer and we will purchase additional copies as necessary. As ever, staff will be on hand to offer any help students need.
