3 summer volunteering opportunities you can apply for today

Megan Clark is the Volunteering Assistant at the Guild and is studying for a PhD in Egyptology. Here, Megan shares three volunteering opportunities that you can get involved with over the summer.

You’ll find lots more opportunities via the Guild’s Volunteer pages.

1. YHA: Summer Camp Volunteer Team Leader

The Youth Hostel Association (YHA) is a charity that provides budget accommodation in coastal, rural and urban locations across England and Wales. Volunteers make a huge difference to the YHA, and they have a wide range of opportunities for people to get involved with.

Over the summer, YHA are setting up camps in Derbyshire, Shropshire and Gloucestershire, providing volunteering opportunities for students to widen their skill set, whilst also enjoying the perks of visiting a summer camp. Volunteering incentives include travel expenses, free food and accommodation on site, official certification, training in safeguarding, behaviour management, leadership and communication skills.

This role is recommended for students who wish to carry out volunteering in a relaxed environment, with the flexibility of choosing how long they wish to volunteer for, from a few days to a few weeks. Volunteers help out around camp, teaching young people new skills and developing their confidence.

Find out more about volunteering opportunities at the YHA on their YouTube channel and via the Guild’s website.

2. Campus Children’s Holidays: Group Leader

Campus Children’s Holidays is an entirely volunteer-run charity committed to providing annual respite breaks for disadvantaged children. If you only have a week or two to spare this summer, this is a relaxed and rewarding opportunity you can get involved with here in Liverpool.

Volunteers are needed to accompany visiting children on a range of activities such as, a trip to the beach, visiting a theme park and rollerblading! In the evening volunteers are needed on site to work with the children, continuing with activities that are enjoyable and educational.
