Professor Sue Wray from the Department of Molecular and Cellular Physiology has become the President of the Federation of European Physiological Societies (FEPS).
FEPS promotes and fosters the exchange and diffusion of concepts and information between physiologists and their societies in the European region.
Professor Wray said: “The FEPS meetings are important as they provide a meaningful way for physiologists from across Europe to meet and connect. This is a useful opportunity to provide friendly competition to the dominance of North American meetings.
“At this time of uncertainty surrounding future scientific collaborations across Europe, I am honoured that our European scientific community is happy to have asked a Brit to lead it from 2019. I am looking forward to playing a strong role in promoting FEPS, physiology, and translational research during my Presidency.”
Professor Wray began her four-year term as FEPS President at the organisation’s meeting in Bologna, in September. The three other members of the executive team are working in Germany, Norway and Turkey.

Professor Wray has also become the Editor-in-Chief of Current Research in Physiology, a gold open access journal, published by Elsevier.
