Obituary: Alison Reid

The School of Life Sciences is deeply saddened to report the death of their friend and colleague, Alison Reid, who passed away on Thursday, 24 October 2019 following a long illness.

Alison joined the University of Liverpool in 1998 and held positions in the School of Electrical Engineering and in Pharmacology in the School of Biomedical Sciences, before joining the School of Life Sciences in 2011 where she held positions as both School Administrator and Student Experience Team Leader.

Alison always put the student experience first, providing tremendous support and encouragement.  When a student thought that all hope was lost, Alison would step in, restore calm and provide a solution – once even going so far as to pick up a student in her car, when he had phoned in to say that he was going to be late for an exam, as he had overslept.

Alison spent many years administering teaching in Pharmacology.  Her teaching support office rapidly became the de facto Pharmacology staff room, where she ruled supreme. She will be fondly remembered for her fantastic positivity, as well as her innate ability to sort things out – either by comforting words, support, or an effortless Scouse ticking-off, particularly for recalcitrant staff.  Alison was one of those key people without whom our University would not function properly. Incredibly kind and highly respected, we have all lost a true friend.

Alison was devoted to her family and our thoughts are with her daughter, Lauren, and the rest of her family, at this sad time.

Alison’s funeral will be held on Friday 8th November 2019 at 10am at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Aintree Village (L10 2LG), followed by cremation at Thornton Crematorium (L23 1TP).

Donations in Alison’s memory can be made to Woodlands Hospice.
