Heilbron Leadership Programme – closing date extended to 6 December

The deadline for applications for a place on the Heilbron Leadership Programme has been extended to 5pm on Friday 6 December 2019.

This innovative programme is aimed at staff in academic and professional services roles who aspire to senior level leadership. Starting in early 2020 and delivered across a six month-period, it this will enable participants to explore and challenge their approach to leadership and develop their capability to operate at the highest levels.

The programme is named after Dame Rose Heilbron, holder of an illustrious number of ‘firsts’ in professional law. Rose graduated from The University of Liverpool with a first-class honours in law in 1935. She went on to be the first woman appointed as a Recorder in 1956, the first woman Judge to sit at the Old Bailey in 1972 and the first woman to become a head of one of the four Inns of Court when she became Gray’s Inn Treasurer in 1985.

The Heilbron Leadership Programme will provide a collaborative learning experience which will challenge leaders to think and act in new ways, to explore best practice and be part of a growing culture of leadership excellence across the university. The style is highly participative, allowing leaders to reflect and to challenge, reaching new levels in their accountability and practice.

Carol Costello, Director of HR said: “This is the first time the university has offered a leadership programme explicitly designed to nurture our internal talent to reach senior leadership. It’s a fantastic opportunity for already great performers in their own field to grow their wider leadership capability and accountability.

Like people, leaders come in many forms. We don’t have a particular model in mind and we won’t be trying to mould you into a specific type of leader. What we will do is help and support you to be the best leader you can be. If you have the ambition and desire to progress, and you’re up for the challenge, then you should seriously think about applying for a place”.

Who can apply?
• Staff with the potential and ambition to excel to be our future top leaders
• Those who can demonstrate strength in aspects of the new Leadership Commitment Framework
• Leaders with a clear focus on professional development and learning
• Likely to be at grade 9 and above
Anyone, whatever their background or role, who feels they meet the criteria is encouraged to apply. 20 places are available.

Applications close on Friday December 6th and applicants will be notified of the outcome by mid-December. The programme starts on 27 January 2020. Dates and further details, including the application form, can be found on the Academy’s website here.
