We are aware that many students are worried about coronavirus and we want to remind you that your health and wellbeing is an absolute priority.
The University understands that students may wish to visit family/travel particularly over the Easter holiday but please be aware that the global situation with coronavirus is changing rapidly. Further travel restrictions may be imposed, and additional health precautions may be placed upon individuals returning to the UK from affected countries once new cases are identified.
The decision to travel is yours to make. However, you may wish to carefully consider the following particularly if the travel is avoidable:
- You should check the Government’s latest advice in terms of travel and health restrictions, both in and out of the UK, as well as in the country you are travelling to. You may also find the Foreign Travel Advice and Travel Health Pro websites useful
- Public Health England has also added to the list of specified countries and areas with implications for returning travellers or visitors arriving in the UK. The list can be found on the following site: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/covid-19-specified-countries-and-areas/covid-19-specified-countries-and-areas-with-implications-for-returning-travellers-or-visitors-arriving-in-the-uk
- If you are booking flights, ensure that you have valid travel insurance in case you need to cancel
- If the country you are travelling to becomes an area affected by the coronavirus, you may not be able to return to your studies after the Easter vacation and this may mean that you cannot take assessments and examinations in the Summer Term
As this is a rapidly evolving situation, we are asking you to check our FAQ page regularly to keep informed of the latest advice. Please follow this link: https://news.liverpool.ac.uk/coronavirus-advice-and-guidance/
If you are already abroad or due to go abroad in the near future as part of your Liverpool degree programme, please rest assured that the University continues to closely monitor the situation regarding coronavirus in countries where our students are resident on University business and will contact you on a group or individual basis if required. If you have any concerns please do not hesitate to contact your School Student Experience Team or the Study Abroad Team.
If you are a PGR student, you should review the latest Foreign and Commonwealth Office travel advice and Public Health England advice for travellers returning to the UK. Please do discuss any travel plans you have with your supervisor, including discussing the impact of changing your travel plans on your PhD plan.
Please be aware if you are a health care or medical student you will receive an email from your department setting out the specific requirements in relation to travel outside of the UK.
Travelling from Italy
Public Health England (PHE) is now asking anyone who has travelled to the UK from any Italian town under containment measures within the last 14 days to immediately self-isolate, even if they have no symptoms, and to call NHS 111 to inform them of recent travel.
The towns are:
- In the region of Lombardy: Codogno; Castiglione d’Adda; Casalpusterlengo; Fombio; Maleo; Somaglia; Bertonico; Terranova dei Passerini; Castelgerundo; and San Fiorano.
- In the region of Veneto: Vo’Euganeo.
Anyone who has travelled from other areas of northern Italy (defined by PHE as a line above, and not including, Pisa, Florence and Rimini), to the UK in the last 14 days and is experiencing a cough, fever or shortness of breath should:
- stay indoors and avoid contact with other people
- call NHS 111 to inform them of your recent travel to the country and to ask for advice
Any students this applies to are asked to contact the University’s Advice and Guidance team on advice@liverpool.ac.uk. They will then work with the students to discuss: how you will be provided with alternative means of keeping up with your studies; reassurance that authorised non-attendance will not result in visa implications; and any other measures which need to be put in place to ensure that students do not need to leave their room.
For students living in university-owned accommodation who this applies to are also asked to ring reception and ask to speak to a hall warden. They will discuss how to support them, including access to food.
*Please also note that Public Health England has added to the list of specified countries and areas with implications for returning travellers or visitors arriving in the UK. The list can be found here and further details can be found in the FAQs on this webpage >>>>
