With students arriving on campus for Welcome Week we thought it was the perfect time to share with you seven great events happening during the next few months. #HelloLivUni
1. Guild of Students Welcome events – until Friday, 2 October
Whilst this year may look different, the Guild is still your home away from home. They are running an exciting programme of virtual and physical events to start off the academic year, from virtual yoga sessions and live music via Parr Street Studios, to carrying on your lockdown skills at a Crafternoon and a special virtual Bongo’s Bingo – there’s something for everyone.
2. Foundation Week – Monday, 5 – Friday, 9 October
Foundation Week is a new initiative that will provide all University of Liverpool students with a programme of skill and career development activities prior to the start of teaching. There will also be plenty of opportunities during this week for you to attend talks and presentations by your School or Department, and to meet with academic advisers.
3. Liverpool Literary Festival – Friday, 9 – Sunday, 11 October
This October join us at the fourth annual Liverpool Literary Festival for conversations, readings and lively discussions. The free virtual programme features a fantastic line-up of artists, including comedian and author Alexei Sayle, Heidi Thomas, screenwriter of the BBC smash hit Call the Midwife, and leading actor Stephen McGann.
4. Tate Liverpool Exhibition: Op Art in Focus – until Sunday, 31 January
A dazzling display from pioneering artists of the 1960s to today. Op art – short for optical art – emerged in the 1960s. Its leading figures included Bridget Riley, Jesus Rafael Soto and Victor Vasarely. They combined lines, geometric shapes and eye-popping colour to create artworks that fool the eye. The exhibition is free but all visitors, including members, need to book a ticket in advance.
5. ConnExpo Virtual Careers Fair – Monday, 26 October – Friday, 13 November
The usual on-campus Careers Fairs and employer events will this year be replaced with a brand new online ConnEXPO programme – featuring 10-days of interactive virtual events taking place over three weeks from 26 October until 13 November. A great chance to learn about internship, placement, and graduate opportunities, and to pick up tips that will help you through all stages of the recruitment process.
Bookings open via Handshake on Monday 19 October.
6. Halloween Fright Trail – Friday, 30 – Saturday, 31 October
Halloween is approaching, but after a year of uncertainty due to the coronavirus pandemic there may be fewer events than usual. One new Halloween event is coming to Merseyside this year, for those who are brave enough to experience it.
The Halloween Fright Trail will take you and your group of up to six friends through a mile-long forest walk in complete darkness, where anything could happen. Book an hour-long slot from 7pm on the Friday and 6pm on Saturday, and you can even experience the trail at midnight – if you dare!
7. Study Abroad Week – Monday, 16 – Friday, 21 November
Study Abroad Week is the perfect opportunity to discover all of the study abroad opportunities available to you at the University of Liverpool, with a virtual Study Abroad Fair and online events taking place throughout the week. Chat virtually with staff and former study abroad students, learn about our partner universities, discover the different programme types, and get information about accommodation, student support, and finances.
