The Careers & Employability team have partnered with Liverpool based Social Enterprise champions, Capacity, to run an exciting 8-week Enterprise programme for students who want to make a difference in the local community.
Who can apply?
All University of Liverpool students are eligible to apply. We are looking for individuals who can think creatively to find solutions to real challenges, have a passion for research and/or entrepreneurship – and most importantly, would like to make a difference in the communities you live in to improve people’s lives.
The schedule:
The programme will begin in January 2021 and run over 8 weeks. The aim is to engage with communities in Liverpool and evaluate the impact that students in the city have on those communities. You will carry out a community engagement exercise to understand how the local residents feel, and then create a viable Social Enterprise or Community Business that will give something back to the community.
What you will learn
Each of the sessions is designed to guide you through your Social Enterprise journey, from gathering relevant information and identifying ‘the problem’, right through to applying for grant funding and delivering your Social Enterprise back to the community.
By taking part you will learn about:
- Community engagement
- Feasibility
- Project planning
- Funding and effective bid writing
- Delivery and measuring impact
You will also meet a group of Social Leaders who run some of the most impactful organisations in the UK, and learn from them how to make positive changes and improve people’s lives.
At the end of the programme you will be invited to pitch your ideas back to the community, who will vote on which they think would have the most impact. The winning pitch will win the opportunity to make their Social Enterprise idea a reality with support from the team at Capacity.
Participants on this programme will gain valuable experience of how to start a Social Enterprise from scratch, as well as developing a network of social leaders from across the UK. You will improve your confidence, meet likeminded people and open up potential employment opportunities in the non-profit and charity sector.
