With Liverpool City Region currently under tier 2 restrictions, many outlets across the city were able to reopen their doors last week.
This week we’re bringing you information about what’s open in the city, how they have adapted to keep you safe, and events and activities to take part in.
It’s important if you do decide to head into the city to adhere to tier 2 measures, including only socialising indoors with those in your household, and keep in mind that the three key steps we can take as individuals – wearing a face covering, regularly washing our hands, and maintaining a safe distance – make an enormous difference.

1. Get outdoors
Take a stroll around one of Liverpool’s open spaces. From parks to beaches, promenades and waterfronts, there’s so many places to safely head to on your own or with your housemates. Don’t fancy walking? Here’s some handy cycle routes.

2. Liverpool Christmas Walking Route
Although Christmas is feeling a little different, in Liverpool it’s definitely not cancelled! Follow this walking route around the city centre to spot all the Christmas trees, twinkly lights and festive sights.

3. National Museums Liverpool
National Museums Liverpool are reopening their museums and galleries Wednesday to Sunday, 10am – 4pm. To keep everyone safe, you will need to book a ticket before you visit. NML have also been working hard to ensure that social distancing is upheld in all venues, minimising all hard surface contact points and further increasing hygiene facilities.
The café at Merseyside Maritime Museum will be open Saturdays and Sundays 10am – 4pm but all of NML’s other cafes will be closed.
The shops at the Walker Art Gallery will be open Wednesday to Sunday 10am – 4pm and while the remainder of NML’s shops will be closed, people can still access the online shop 24/7, which stocks a specially curated selection of locally made unique handcrafted goods.

4. Liverpool ONE
Liverpool ONE is open again for shopping and dining. When returning to Liverpool ONE you’ll need to wear a face covering whilst you are in stores, unless you are medically exempt. If you forget yours, there is a mask vending machine with a variety of masks available to purchase. This can be found in the Galleria, outside Barburrito.

5. Baltic Market
The Baltic Market is now open again Wednesdays-Sundays, 5-11pm. Head down to sample, amongst other things, a new Christmas speciality…Halloumi in Blankets!

6. Tate Liverpool
Tate Liverpool is re-open with two new displays accessible through a new one-way route.

7. Give Art A Go: Street Art, Graffiti and Sculptures in the Baltic Triangle
Have you walked around the Baltic Triangle area of Liverpool? If you have you’ll have seen it’s vibrant and art filled – this session we’ll have a look at some of the pieces around this exciting area of the city. All questions are welcome but not essential. This session is led by Louise Waller.
Louise Waller is a local ceramics artist and educator. Studio member of Baltic Clay Ceramics Studio. Works at Tate Liverpool and The Victoria Gallery and Museum.

8. Winter Arts Market
The Winter Arts Market is back this year with lots of social distancing measures in place, where you can find stalls from over 30 independent artists, designers and makers in the magnificent surroundings of Liverpool Cathedral.

9. Royal Albert Dock Light Walk
Take a late afternoon, or evening stroll with your household to see the festive lights at the Royal Albert Dock. Explore it all by following their Christmas Light Walk Map which you can download from their website here.

10. Knowsley Safari – Enchanted
Knowsley Safari will once again turn into a winter wonderland for their Christmas light trail, Enchanted. Explore the safari after dark and be guided by magical lights, music and amazing illuminated animals.

Travel guidance from Merseytravel
If you plan on travelling around the city region, public transport is available. However, social distancing measures mean that spaces may be limited, so it’s important to book ahead where you can. If you live within a mile or two of your destination, Merseytravel also advise that you should walk or cycle wherever possible.
