The trails

Thanks to The Beatles, Liverpool and Music are synonymous. It’s an association with deep roots, for the city has a rich and diverse music history that stretches back to the 18th century and the city’s development as one of the world’s great maritime ports – right the way to Merseybeat in the 1960s and our status as a UNESCO City of Music in 2016.

To celebrate all this great musical city has to offer, our Institute of Popular Music have developed two walking trails to discover the very best of Liverpool’s musical heritage.

Trail 1: The South Liverpool Trail

Running from Penny Lane to Lark Lane, on this trail you’ll discover more about The Beatles, festivals that run from Sefton Park and see the pub that was once home to Freddie Mercury.

Download Trail 1 here.

Trail 2: The City Centre Trail

Starting at Cains Brewery and culminating at the Pier Head, spend an afternoon walking this city centre trail to find out more about the many diverse musical acts and styles that Liverpool has been home to.
