Class of 2020: Winter graduations celebrated online

December graduations took place online today for the University of Liverpool’s Class of 2020.

As part of a celebratory film to mark the occasion, the new graduates received well wishes from alumni and famous faces including author Philip Pullman, restaurateur Nisha Katona, Liverpool artist Paul Curtis, Judge Wendy Beetlestone, ‘The Yorkshire Vet’ Peter Wright, and Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson.

Four live graduation ceremonies also took place across the day via Zoom for Nurses and Allied Health, the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences, the Faculty of Science and Engineering and the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences.

University of Liverpool Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dame Janet Beer said: “Graduation ceremonies are always a special occasion at the University of Liverpool – a great opportunity to show how proud we are of our students and to celebrate their achievements. And in some ways today was, of course, exactly the same despite being so very different.

“In a year which none of us could have expected, and with moments many of us would wish to forget, it’s even more important that we are able to come together and hold on to special days like this.

“We are really excited for our new graduates and look forward to hearing about all that they go on to achieve.”

The Class of 2020 will, pandemic permitting, be invited back to the University next summer for a more traditional graduation celebration at the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall.
