5 volunteering opportunities that you can get involved with today

Volunteering provides many benefits to both mental and physical health. It can help counteract the effects of stress and anxiety and combat depression.  Volunteering can make you happy, increase self-confidence, and is a great way to develop the skills and experience that will help when applying for jobs.

Liverpool Guild of Students have teamed up with organisations across Liverpool to provide Covid-safe volunteering opportunities, many of them offered remotely.

Here are just a few to take part in this month:

Volunteer mentor with local schools

ReachOut is a mentoring charity that works with disadvantaged young people aged 9-16 to help support them to grow in character and attainment.

They are currently looking for students to volunteer as mentors in local schools, where you will work one-on-one with mentees each week in an after-school session. Due to social distance restrictions these will initially take place online, but will transition into face-to-face mentoring when it is safe to do so.

Friend making facilitator for students

Liverpool Guild of Students offer a schedule of events to keep self-isolating students busy, provide a space to meet each other, and create a sense of community that is fun and supportive.

They’re looking for volunteers to get involved and help to ensure that all students still have lots of opportunities to make friends and enjoy their University experience.

With a wide-ranging and ever-expanding suite of projects, covering many disciplines and topics across the sciences and humanities, there’s a place for anyone and everyone.

To volunteer just choose a project you like the look of and get started!

Volunteer telephone befriender

Help to combat loneliness and isolation in the local community, from your own home. Join the Age Concern team of volunteer Befrienders where you’ll be matched with a client who has similar interests or hobbies. You will call for a chat each week, and help to brighten someone’s day.
