Ali is a current student who works part-time as a Career Coach in the Careers and Employability team. In this blog post he talks about the resources and support available to help you plan and prepare for your graduate careers.
We’ve opened a Virtual Career Studio so that students can continue to access our support while the building is not open. We’ve also created an online space for digital tools and employability resources that you can explore.
Students are able to work one to one with our Career Coaches virtually, and no matter what stage you’re at in planning your career there are lots of ways that we can help. Whether it’s exploring your options, helping to connect with employers, or preparing for the different stages of the job application process – we’re ready with lots of with practical advice and support.
There are two ways you can access the Virtual Career Studio. The first is to drop-in to the Zoom Studio to meet with a Coach online for one-to-one support. You can also send a message via Handshake if the Virtual Studio is closed, or if you prefer that option, and we’ll get respond to answer your question.
There are also lots of extra things you can do to enhance your employability, and we’ve gathered these together in the digital tools and resources area of the Virtual Career Studio.
Firstly, LinkedIn learning which is free for University of Liverpool students. It is all online and a great way to get competitive advantage in certain areas over other applicants by developing the skills and knowledge that employers are looking – all from the comfort of your own home.
Another way to gain a competitive advantage is by seeking virtual online internships/work experience, being proactive in the current climate stems well for future employers. We’ve teamed up with The Forage to offer these to University of Liverpool students, and they can really help to develop and demonstrate the transferable skills that employers are looking for.
Finally have a variety in your job search, use our own Handshake platform along with all other job sites as not everything will get posted in the same area.
