Welcome to all our new students starting this year and a big welcome back to our returning students! Whether this is your first time on campus or your first time back for a while, we have put together a useful guide that sets out everything you need to know to get you started.
Things you need to do
First things first, in order to enter the Library, you will need your student ID card, so if you haven’t already, you’ll need to follow these instructions to receive your card.
You can also use the QR code in the Library section of the My Liverpool app as your ID to enter the libraries from the start of term.
Opening Times
The libraries will be open 24/7 from Monday 20th September. Please see the Library’s full opening hours for the most up to date information.
Study Spaces
To make your visit as easy as possible, we recommend that you book a study space before you visit the library. You can access desk spaces and PC spaces in both campus libraries throughout the year.
Accessing Books
Visit the library to browse the books on the shelves and check out any books that you need for your studies or just want to read for pleasure. Find out where the books for your subject are located.
If you don’t want to browse the shelves and you know which books you need, you can reserve them in advance and collect them from the library using our Click & Collect Service.
Online resources
There are plenty of ways to access resources online if you can’t visit the library in person or if you need to use resources that we don’t have a physical copy of. We have over 900,000 electronic books and 140,000 electronic journals available to you 24/7 wherever you have an internet connection.
Academic Skills Sessions
The Library’s KnowHow Academic Skills Programme provides academic support throughout the year to help you to succeed in your studies.
KnowHow sessions include topics such as Academic Writing, Presentations, Statistics and more.
Through KnowHow you can:
- Access helpful tutorials on Canvas
- Join KnowHow sessions online and on campus
- Book one to one appointments with writing tutors to help you analyse questions, become more critical, or plan and structure your writing
- Book one to one appointments with statistics tutors for support in choosing statistical tests, using statistical packages and understanding statistical concepts
We also recommend that you get to know the Liaison Librarian for your subject who can offer you specialist support and advice and help you find and use the resources for your subject to support your learning and assessments.
Where to get support
Library staff are always on hand to support you with anything you may need. If you need support while you’re in the Library, you can visit the Help Desk or ask any of the friendly library staff that you see around the building.
