New mental health and wellbeing workshop series launches

The Improving Student Mental Health through Partnerships Project Team are launching a new series of online workshops all designed to help you manage your mental wellbeing while at University.

1. Living With, and Understanding: Anxiety – 3 November 2021

The session will contain information on various topic areas surrounding anxiety, and how anxiety is portrayed in the world today.

2.  Workshop: Motivation and Positivity – 1 December 2021

This interactive Motivation and Positivity workshop will help you to identify the essential components to develop your confidence and motivation. This workshop is reflective and will guide you to discover the deeper connections between self-esteem and self-confidence, what is motivation made of and the components of a winning attitude.

3.  Living With, and Understanding: Stress – 12 January 2022

This workshop is for anyone who would like to develop healthy coping strategies to manage symptoms of stress and promote ongoing wellbeing. You will be guided through various tools and techniques to help improve day-to-day management of stress, including: relaxation techniques, challenging negative thoughts and assertive communication.

5.  Living With, and Understanding: Psychosis – 2 March 2022

This workshop is a specialist session delivered by the Early Intervention in Psychosis team; clinical Psychologists and Mental Health Nurses. It is an opportunity to further understand more the condition, and a chance to explore a topic some students may not be familiar with.

The session will include:

The workshop offers an exploration of treatment options, the psychological, social and biological causes and effects of Psychosis and offers a chance to hear from experts in the field and have your questions answered, whether you have lived experience of the condition or want to learn more.

6.  Workshop: Suicide Prevention – 23 March 2022

This workshop will be delivered in partnership with the Mersey Care Suicide Prevention Team and is designed to raise your awareness of suicide, how to respond to someone who you are concerned about, or assist someone in a crisis. Some example areas of discussion are:

7.  Living With, and Understanding: ADHD – 27 April 2022

During this deep dive workshop on living with and understanding ADHD, delivered by Dr Helen Pears, a specialist in the field; you will learn about ADHD as a developmental disorder, considering controversies related to the condition. You will learn about the diagnosis and best practice treatment of ADHD and more about the realities of living with the condition, dispelling myths and exploring practical strategies which can support educational and personal development of those living with ADHD.

8.  Living With, and Understanding: Depression and Bipolar Disorder – 11 May 2022

This session has been developed to challenge misconceptions, help young people to recognise the symptoms of Depression and Bipolar Disorder, in themselves and in others, and to learn valuable skills for reaching out and support each other. This is a fantastic opportunity to hear from an expert, Dr Declan Hyland, on a deep dive into Depression and Bipolar Disorder, and how they affect day to day life of people suffering with the conditions. It will include:

With a five-fold rise in students reporting mental health conditions over the last ten years early intervention is often key, this session aims to boost awareness and destigmatise the condition.
