Student volunteering opportunities: get involved

This week, we are celebrating Student Volunteering Week! The Guild are working alongside your Careers and Employability Team to deliver sessions throughout the week and showcase volunteering opportunities.  

Volunteering at the Guild, on campus or in your local community is a great way to improve your wellbeing, develop your employability and helps contribute positively to your local community. Find out how you can get involved below: 

Find your opportunity 

The Guild Volunteering Service can help you find the right charity or organisation for you – they work with hundreds so you will have plenty of opportunity to make a difference in an area you care about.

Events this week  

Wednesday 9 February – Flat Sustainability Champion Training
The Green Guild and SOS-UK are offering the opportunity to take a leading role in sustainability in your Halls of Residence. As a Flat Sustainability Champion (FSC) you will encourage flatmates to improve energy saving, recycling and other behaviour changes. It will also involve learning more about other issues covering the UN Sustainable Development Goals and taking part in competitions. Friday 11 February – Volunteer Spotlight: IntoUniversity
IntoUniversity is an award-winning education charity which provides local learning centres where students from disadvantaged backgrounds are inspired to achieve. Young people from the UK’s poorest backgrounds tend to do less well at school and are far less likely to go to university. IntoUniversity provides long-term academic support, motivation and encouragement to give young people a fair chance of realising their full potential, whether their aspirations lie with university education or elsewhere. 

IntoUniversity are looking for enthusiastic and committed volunteers to support students at their centre in North Liverpool, as Academic Support Tutors or as Student Mentors. Register here: https://www.liverpoolguild.org/events/volunteer-spotlight-intouniversity

As well as external organisations, the Guild’s many societies offer a wealth of volunteering opportunities. Just one example is the Help the Homeless Society, who have a host of regular and one off ways to help make a difference in our city. Support a charity  

One of the University’s Liv2Give charities for this academic year, Alzheimer’s Society, is running a fun and colourful sponsored night walk in locations up and down the country this March.  The Liverpool Glow walk takes place on 12th March. Take in the atmosphere, grab your glowsticks and get ready to walk alongside hundreds of others to shine a light on dementia.
