‘Safe Pod’ provides Liverpool researchers with remote access to data

The University of Liverpool is one of 25 Universities nationally to host an ESRC-funded SafePod.

A ‘SafePod’ is a pre-fabricated office space which provides accredited researchers with secure remote access to confidential data for approved research purposes. The service is open not only to University of Liverpool researchers, but to any researcher from the Liverpool City Region and beyond, regardless of whether they work in the academic, public or private sector, subject to them having first set up an approved project with the data supplier concerned.

Researchers using the SafePod will be able to better understand and address topics such as:

  • Types of people at high risk from covid
  • Risk factors for becoming a victim of crime
  • Assessing the impacts of immigration
  • Understanding savings behaviour
  • Predictors of severe mental health disorders
  • Causes of death amongst the homeless
  • Pathways and obstacles to Higher Education
  • Labour market inequalities

Within the University, users will be drawn from Geography, Planning, Sociology, Criminology, Economics, Management and Public Health, amongst others.

If you wish to gain access to the SafePod or require further information please contact the grant holder, Dr Paul Williamson at: P.Williamson@liverpool.ac.uk /tel: 0151 794 2842
