Summer Abroad applications close this Friday

Applications for our Summer Abroad programmes close this Friday (11 March). You can find out what opportunities are available to you via the Global Opportunities Search Tool.

We have plenty of incredible short-term opportunities for you to study, work or volunteer abroad in Summer 2022. We’re really excited to launch three brand new opportunities in partnership with Pagoda Projects and Think Pacific!

1. Pagoda Projects Sustainable Global Experience

From 5 to 10 June 2022, supported by Pagoda Projects, we’ll be fully-funding 30 students to take part in a Global Sustainable Experience in Amsterdam! You’ll spend 5 days visiting local companies, working on a group project and taking masterclasses from local businesses. Prior to departure, you’ll have the opportunity to take Carbon Literacy Training delivered by the Carbon Literacy Project, as well as accessing Pagoda’s digital Skills Classes. Pagoda will also be off-setting the emissions from the project through a number of Gold Standard projects.

The University of Liverpool will be funding this programme, which includes all accommodation and return transport from Liverpool to Amsterdam (via coach [Liverpool to London] and train [London to Amsterdam]).

2. Pagoda Projects Internships

Following a successful partnership offering virtual internships in summer 2021, we’re excited to work with Pagoda Projects again to offer 25 in-person internships in summer 2022! These 8-week internships will be available in Germany, Mexico (TBC), Taiwan and Vietnam and will allow you to gain valuable work experience in a truly global way! You’ll have access to Pagoda’s digitally-delivered Skills Classes, a cultural mentor and lots of virtual events to complement your in-person activity.

Please note, that this opportunity is available to all years (excluding final year).

3. Volunteering in Fiji

In partnership with Think Pacific we’ll have 40 places available on their amazing 4-week volunteering opportunity in Fiji! You can choose from a project focussing on either Community Development, Youth Empowerment, Mental Health or Sports Development and will work alongside students from other UK universities during this life-changing experience.

Please note, you can choose any of the listed dates, but please note the following:

Funding

Think Pacific volunteer placements and Pagoda Project Internships

We want to make sure that these opportunities are as accessible as possible, so for 40 students (Think Pacific) and 25 students (Pagoda Projects internships):

The programme fee for both programmes includes accommodation, food (Think Pacific only), on-site support and online development activities.

If you’re not successful in gaining a funded place, you can still apply to take part in either of the schemes, but please note you will need to cover the programme fee yourself. We may have additional Turing funding available for students who are not awarded a funded place, but this is not guaranteed (eligible students will be contacted).

Pagoda Projects Sustainable Global Experience

The Pagoda Projects Sustainable Global Experience will be fully funded – students will only need to pay for food and any day-to-day spending money.

Eligibility & Applying

Applications for all the programmes close on 11 March 2022 and your initial application should be made directly to Think Pacific or Pagoda Projects (see above for links).

Eligibility – Think Pacific volunteer placements and Pagoda Project Internships

The funded places are open to all undergraduate students, from any discipline and in any year of study (with the exception of final year for Pagoda Projects Internships).
