Cash scam

Students are being reminded to be cautious after reports of a scam involving demands for money for the return of personal belongings.

A small number of cases have been reported where students have been asked for money for the safe return of personal belongings after misplacing items on public transport or within public buildings.

This activity is classed as theft and is a crime in the UK. Students should contact police following any demand for money for the return of personal property.

If you think you may have been targeted or are a victim of any other type of fraud, please contact student services on advice@liverpool.ac.uk. If you are an international student you can also contact the International Advice and Guidance Team who will support you to contact the British Police through ACTION FRAUD. You can also contact ACTION FRAUD directly on 0300 123 2040. It is important to take these steps even if you have been told not to contact anyone.
