The University of Liverpool’s annual programme of development opportunities for research staff, Making an Impact 2022, is open for bookings – with 12 of its sessions being open to external attendees from the research community.
Events take place between 9th May and 10th June 2022.
Programme highlights
Highlights from the programme of open sessions include:
- Building a culture of innovation from Dr Iain Hennessy (Director of Clinical Innovation and co-founder of Alder Hey Innovation) Wednesday 18th May (11:00 – 12:00pm). Dr Hennessy will discuss his unique underground innovation facility for collaboration with the tech sector and how he developed a team of clinician entrepreneurs to drive change within the NHS. - Responding to COVID-19 by Professor Calum Semple OBE (Professor of Child Health and Outbreak Medicine, Consultant Respiratory Paediatrician at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital) Friday 20th May (12:30-1:30pm). Professor Semple will discuss his experiences and share his perspectives on informing the COVID-19 response. Register here
- The road from COP26, how zero carbon innovation is leading the way by Steve Rotheram (Metro Mayor of Liverpool City Region) and a panel from members of the Climate Futures Research Theme. Wednesday 23rd May 2:00-3:30pm. This session will explore how the City Region is transitioning to a net zero carbon economy and how research at the University is leading the way on innovation in sustainability at a local, national and global scale. - Knowledge Exchange – a funders perspective by Alice Frost (Director of Knowledge Exchange, Research England). Tuesday 24th May 2:00-3:00pm. This Keynote session will update on the latest state of play in terms of Government priorities and spending review decisions and funding allocations. Register here.
- Climate change and how Universities can make a difference by Professor Judith Petts CBE (Vice Chancellor University of Plymouth) Monday 6th June 11:30-12:30pm. Professor Petts has led the development of a new set of climate commitments endorsed by 140 universities which support government aims to cut carbon emissions by 78% by 2035. Register here.

This comprehensive programme of events led by The Academy aims to provide rich, varied and high-quality development opportunities for researchers, academics and research-related professional services staff at all stages of their career with opportunities offered across all Faculties.
Making an Impact 2022 will be delivered mainly online however The Academy are pleased to offer a number of sessions using a Hy-Flex approach, where participants will have the option to attend in-person or online.

This annual series of high quality development opportunities designed to enhance research impact, has grown to be a key event in the University’s calendar. The programme evolves each year and consists of a diverse range of sessions addressing contemporary topics within the research and impact landscape. A core strand of events is again open to external partners this year, further increasing the reach of the series and stimulating creativity through collaboration.
