Economics students win Worldwide University Business Challenge

Economics Students

Congratulations to students Bubu Wang, Yang Yu, Benben Jiang, and Renxi Gu, who recently won the University Business Challenge Worldwide Undergraduate Challenge 2022.

With 128 teams from 30 universities taking part in the challenge, it was the second year in a row that a University of Liverpool team has won the competition, and the first time a university has secured back-to-back wins since the competition began in 1998.

The win this year was made extra special by the fact that the University of Liverpool Management School, as defending champions, hosted the Grand Final.

The University Business Challenge is the UK’s longest established simulation-based competition designed to help develop students’ employability and enterprise skills. Over 30,000 students have benefitted from taking part in the competition since it was founded

Winning student Bubu said: “It was a pleasure to represent the University of Liverpool in the competition. We never expected that we could be the overall winners!”

“Taking part has really helped us grow and build many important skills, and we are so happy that we could defend the title won last year. We really recommend more and more students to take part in competition in the future, since it is really a very meaningful business competition.”

Nick Drape, Academic Lead for the University Business Challenge, said: “It is always a real pleasure mentoring the ULMS teams taking part in the competition, and this turned out to be another very special year! The winning team did fantastically well and for them to be able to claim the title on home turf was brilliant. We also had another team in the final who, even though they missed out on the top 3, gave an excellent account of themselves.

“The competition gives students a fantastic opportunity to build many important skills and provides them with a wide variety of things they can discuss when applying for jobs. Until last year we had never won the UBC, and so to win it two years in a row is an amazing. A HUGE well done to Bubu, Yu, Benben and Renxi”
