The Green Guild provides opportunities for students, staff and the wider community to think green and become more sustainable.
You can find out about their initiatives – and how you can get involved – below:
Beekeeping:
The Green Guild needs keen volunteers to keep their beehives running smoothly all year round and runs beekeeping courses. If you would like to find our more or sign up, please contact rosie.mercer@liverpool.ac.uk
You will learn not just how to keep bees but also how the society works inside the hives and learn about the life of a beekeeper.
Get gardening
The Green team and volunteers are busy all year transforming areas of campus into vibrant gardens.
The Guild is inviting volunteers to join them for weekly gardening sessions around the Central Teaching Hub’s new campus garden. It is a great opportunity to get involved with a brand new project and experience planting, harvesting and general maintenance of the CTH Garden. So why not spend an afternoon learning some gardening skills and helping to reduce the Guild’s carbon footprint? All materials will be provided so just bring yourself and get stuck in!
You will gain experience of sustainable project work, working in a team, communication and organisational skills. Volunteers will contribute to the maintenance of the Hedgehog Friendly Campus award, as well as learning botany and ecology skills.
Grow food
The Liverpool based company Farm Urban have designed and installed the Guild’s urban farm, showcasing the latest in sustainable growing techniques. The Aquaponics system is a great way of growing healthy and resource efficient food right here on campus.
Through their Give it a Go sessions, the Guild have lots of ways you can get engaged in growing foods: Find out more here.
Green Halls
Green Guild work in collaboration with the Halls Team and SOS-UK to offer Halls students a range of fantastic events, volunteering and learning opportunities relating to sustainability. Find out more here: https://www.liverpoolguild.org/greenguild/halls-sustainability
Leave Liverpool Tidy
Don’t dump it, donate it!
Each year, when the time comes to leave your Liverpool houses or accommodation for the summer, the Green Guild partners with a charity to Leave Liverpool Tidy. The aim of this project is to reduce the amount of reusable items that go into landfill and redistribute them to those who need them.
If you’re leaving Liverpool you can donate items that you no longer need (such as clothes, kitchen equipment or home accessories), by bringing them -using a reusable bag- into one of the Guild’s drop- off points and fixed donation points.
