Student volunteering opportunities you can apply for today

Volunteering is a great way to enhance your CV, make friends, and boost your personal skills, whilst also giving something back to the wider community.

The Guild offers a host of ways to volunteer, whether on campus or with organisations outside the University. Here are just three of the many opportunities currently on offer:

Delamere Dash Steward

The Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation is the only charity in the UK wholly dedicated to the defeat of lung cancer. The aims of the charity is to:

Today, lung cancer is the biggest cancer killer but tomorrow we will beat it

In this role, you can help Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation put on their first ever independent physical running event – the Delamere Dash! Stewards will be required to help marshal and cheer on the crowds at this event in September.

University Student Mentor

IntoUniversity is an award-winning education charity which provides local learning centres where students from disadvantaged backgrounds are inspired to achieve. Young people from the UK’s poorest backgrounds tend to do less well at school and are far less likely to go to university. IntoUniversity provides long term academic support, motivation and encouragement to give young people a fair chance of realising their full potential.

The IntoUniversity Mentoring Scheme works with young people aged 10-17 from some of the UK’s most disadvantaged areas, supporting them to raise their aspirations and achieve their potential. As a Mentor, you would support us with this aim and help to ensure that the background young people are born into doesn’t affect their life chances.

Love Your Neighbour Friendship Matching Program

Liverpool Cares is a new community network of younger (people in their twenties and thirties) and older (people aged over 65) neighbours hanging out and helping each other out, to improve the confidence, resilience and skills of everyone involved. It’s mutually beneficial! We do this because, although Liverpool is the best city in the world, the very changes that make it such an exciting and dynamic place to live can also be isolating. If you don’t feel part of the changes, they can create a sense of alienation.

Love Your Neighbour is our one-to-one friendship matching programme. We introduce younger and older neighbours living across Liverpool, to share time, laughter, and joy together over the phone, in-person, or a mix of both. Neighbours generally catch up for about an hour or two once a week for company and conversation. Where and how often matches meet is up to them, but our Love Your Neighbour coordinator is in regular contact with all of our matches to hear stories, and feedback, and to provide support along the way.
