Bank Holiday Arrangements – Monday, 19 September

VG&M black and white

An additional bank holiday has been announced on Monday, 19 September 2022, to mark the State Funeral of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

Events and activities on Monday, 19 September

Her Majesty was a sincere supporter of universities, recognising the societal contribution made by higher education and celebrating the important role that universities play in building alliances and friendships between different cultures and nations. Consistent with other major institutions and as a mark of respect, some of our events and activities (including any scheduled teaching) will be postponed or cancelled on that day.

All essential services will remain open and fully accessible, including Library access and Student Support Services (Monday – Friday, 9am – 5pm). Students can also access confidential advice via Health Assured 24 hours a day.

Our ‘Here to Help Hub’ will be available all week, including throughout the day on Monday, offering support and guidance within the 502 Teaching Hub next to the Guild of Students.

The University will continue to provide support and welfare-based activities, inductions and orientation information and events for new and returning students. It is important that you check the My Liverpool app and Welcome webpages regularly over the next few days and into Welcome Week for any event and activity changes. Where needed, departmental guidance will be sent to you separately by your school.

Welcome Week events

Our welcome to you, whether you are a new or a returning student, will continue as planned from Tuesday, 20 September onwards. There are lots of activities planned for you to get involved in. Welcome is a special week in our calendar and an important one in terms of your University experience.

Liverpool Guild of Students will be open and running events throughout the week with some small changes to the programming for Sunday and Monday. Information about those changes will be shared with you by the Guild.

Travel disruption

Many across the country will be travelling to visit family, and of course many will be travelling to London during this period.

Given the timing, some of you will no doubt be travelling to Liverpool this weekend from other parts of the UK and from overseas to begin your new academic year with us. Our Halls of Residence move-in schedules will remain unchanged but please make sure you check your travel arrangements in advance as changes and delays are expected.

Whilst the death of Her Majesty was not wholly unexpected it is still a shock for many. Please continue to be respectful of each other and remember that you can access support from our Student Services Team if you need to.
