XJTLU looks to the future

Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU) is looking ahead to some exciting new developments this academic year.

Established in 2006 through a partnership between Xi’an Jiaotong University and the University of Liverpool, XJTLU has grown rapidly to become the largest international joint venture university in China.

Based in the world heritage city of Suzhou, XJTLU boasts more than 21,000 students from around the world. The University of Liverpool hosts up to 3000 of XJTLU’s ‘2+2’ students, who study two years in China and two years at Liverpool, on its campus at any one time – with 1200 new XJTLU students arriving this autumn.

In 2021, XJTLU celebrated its 15-year anniversary by launching three new academies and making its innovative lifelong-learning platform, the XJTLU Learning Mall open to the public. Key to its success is its unique blend of educational styles, enabling students to become internationally minded citizens.

New Taicang campus

XJTLU’s latest major development, its new Taicang campus, will be the new home of its Entrepreneur College, which admitted its first cohort of students in 2019.

Located in the Taicang High-Tech Development Zone on the edge of Shanghai, the new state-of-the-art campus plans to support 10,000 students and 1,200 staff members.

Recruitment of new Vice President

XJTLU is now recruiting a Vice President for Academic Affairs who will help continue this positive trajectory.

The Vice-President for Academic Affairs sits on the Senior Management Team at XJTLU and takes leadership in all aspects of academic operation and activities, with responsibility for liaison with the University of Liverpool.

Professor Gavin Brown, Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Education at the University of Liverpool said: “Our long-standing partnership with Xi’an Jiaotong University is going from strength to strength and the new Vice-President for Academic Affairs will join us at an exciting time of new educational innovation and campus expansion.”
