Volunteering opportunities to get involved with this month

Volunteering is a great way to enhance your CV, make friends, and boost your personal skills, whilst also giving something back to the wider community.

The Guild offers a host of ways to volunteer, whether on campus or with organisations outside the University. Here are just a few of the many opportunities currently on offer:

Mental Health Charity Volunteer – Be Free

The Be Free Campaign aims to demolish the stigma behind mental health and promote the free expression of individual values.

An opportunity with the Be Free Campaign can involve anything from research to teaching to live music events. The charity is split across the following teams:

Flat Sustainability Champion

The Guild’s Sustainability Team and SOS-UK are offering the opportunity to take a leading role in sustainability in your Halls of Residence. As a Flat Sustainability Champion (FSC) you will encourage flatmates to improve energy saving, recycling and other behaviour changes. It will also involve learning more about other issues covering the UN Sustainable Development Goals and taking part in competitions.

Gardening Volunteer

Liverpool Guild of Students is inviting you to join us as a volunteer for weekly gardening sessions around the Central Teach Hub/Labs- our campus garden (also where hedgehogs have been sighted!) It is a great opportunity to get involved with a brand-new project and experience planting, harvesting and general maintenance of the CTH Garden. So why not spend an afternoon learning some gardening skills and helping to reduce the Guild’s carbon footprint? All materials will be provided so just bring yourself and get stuck in!

Ward Volunteer at the Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals

We are one of the busiest university teaching hospital trusts in North West England. We manage three hospitals based on two sites: the Royal Liverpool University Hospital, Liverpool University Dental Hospital and Broadgreen Hospital.

Here at the Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals Trust, we have around 200 volunteers currently registered with us. They provide a wide range of supportive services to the staff, patients and their families across the both the Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen Hospital sites.

Volunteers undertake a variety of roles that enhance services to patients provided by paid staff and assist the NHS in improving and developing services.

Love Your Neighbour Friendship Matching Program

Liverpool Cares is a new community network of younger (people in their twenties and thirties) and older (people aged over 65) neighbours hanging out and helping each other out, to improve the confidence, resilience and skills of everyone involved.

We’re connecting younger and older neighbours across social, generational and attitudinal lines – people that often organically don’t get the opportunity  to meet – so that everyone feels part of, not left behind by, our rapidly changing city.
