Feel Good February: Sustainability Week

Inside the Feel Good February Tipi

The University’s Feel Good February programme continues this week, with more free events and activities open to all students.

This week the focus is on sustainability. There are lots of opportunities to learn about sustainability at the University and how you can get involved.

Programme highlights

If you can, we invite you all to come onto campus to see what’s happening. Here are just some of the many activities taking place this week:

The Sustainability Fair on Monday 20 February in Mountford Hall will feature stands hosted by the Sustainability Team, Sustainability at the Guild, Sustainability in Action, Hedgehog Friendly Campus, the Student Sustainability Network amongst many others. There will also be local organisations including Liverpool Food Growers Network, Liverpool Friends of the Earth, Climate Action Network, The Fermentation Station, plus many more!

LFC’s Mindful Monday features six workshops throughout the day, taking place between 10am and 3pm in the tipi on Abercromby Square.

Sport Liverpool are offering more free health checks and gym inductions. This week also includes a number of outdoor fitness bootcamps and turn up and play sessions.

Take a guided tour of the Energy Centre on Tuesday and learn about how it has successfully helped the University to reduce its carbon emissions through the use of efficient technology.

Lecture: Net Zero, Challenges and Solutions: Join Karl Whittle, Professor of Zero Carbon and Nuclear Energy and Ric Williams, Professor of Ocean and Climate Science as they discuss the science of climate change and the challenges of meeting the goal of net zero carbon.

Join Olympian and former Channel 4 scriptwriter, Peter Bakare on Wednesday for a Creative Goal Settings Workshop.

Tent Talks with Hana Sanadi, Guild Sustainability Champion, Environmentalist & Activist take place on Wednesday afternoon on campus and virtually.

Film Screening of David Attenborough: A life on our planet on Thursday in the Victoria Gallery and Museum.

Cheshire Falconry Display outside the Abercromby Square tipi on Thursday from 12pm – 4pm. Relax and de-stress in the presence of these wonderful birds, ask the experts and even handle the birds yourself.

Learn how to make sustainable and seasonal, small-batch, gut-loving and plant-based ferments at Zero Waste Sauerkraut Making with the Fermentation Station in the Tipi on Friday.

Cycling experts Peloton are on hand on Friday to help you discover the most picturesque bike routes around the city whilst increasing your confidence on two wheels.

Do one thing this week

Throughout the month everyone is challenged to ‘do one thing’ and to set a realistic, achievable goal that will help you feel good without piling on pressure e.g. go for a walk on a certain day each week.
