Apply to become a lay member of Council at the University of Liverpool

The Quad University of Liverpool National Student Survey 2019

The University of Liverpool is seeking to appoint new lay members of Council and subcommittees.

With the new Vice-Chancellor, Professor Tim Jones, taking office at the start of this year, the University is set to enter an exciting period under his leadership. The University Council, is a governing body of 22 members, and is collectively accountable for all university activity, helping it to develop its strategy, fulfil its mission and ensure its long-term sustainability and reputation.

The University is looking to appoint three lay members of Council and two co-opted members to subcommittees (audit and remuneration committee) who will bring a breadth of experience at a senior level, alongside knowledge of complex governance from the public, private or third sectors.

Based on an assessment of current and future skills needs, the University would benefit from knowledge and experience of audit/risk, research, ethics, innovation and enterprise, and industry/business.  Experience of operating at a senior level within a large and ideally international corporate setting will be advantageous in two of the vacancies.  An interest in the Higher Education and the University of Liverpool is critical to all appointments, as is a commitment to the values, aims and objectives of the University.

We are seeking candidates who will be vocal and visible advocates of the University as well as providing challenge and insights. The University recognises the benefit of a diverse Council which represents our student body and the global community we serve. We would welcome applications from candidates from backgrounds which are currently underrepresented.

Council meets six times per year and members are expected to join other committees and undertake other duties. Although these positions are not remunerated reasonable expenses will be paid.

This is a three-year appointment (which can be renewed) and a full induction programme will be provided.
