Students recognised for their commitment to volunteering in local schools

Reach Out Awards

Educational charity Reach Out recently held their very first Volunteer Thank You Event in Liverpool to celebrate their amazing student volunteers.

Ten University of Liverpool students were recognised for their commitment to the Reach Out programme, where they provide mentoring support to pupils in local schools. The shortlisted students were:

Congratulations in particular to Charlotte Dutton, who won 3 awards on the night for Outstanding Contribution (volunteering on 4 projects this year), Project of the Year, and the Reach Out Platinum Award for volunteering over one hundred hours last year.

The event also featured speeches from members of the wider Reach Out community, while two University of Liverpool students, Ema and Tejas spoke about the impact that their volunteering has had on them and the children they work with. There was also a special video featuring some of the school children on the programme, thanking their mentors for their support.

Sia Kampouri, Reach Out Volunteer Co-ordinator said: ”We are so proud of everything that the students have achieved this year, and it’s also important to remember that those who received awards are just a few of many more University of Liverpool students that have been giving their time to Reach Out over the last year.”

Get involved

Reach Out is a national mentoring and education charity that support young people to grow in character and confidence, sparking change in themselves and society. Liverpool students have given their time as mentors and project leaders.

As a mentor you’ll give two hours a week during term time where you will be paired with a young person and meet each week over the course of the school year. You’ll spend time with them, supporting wit basic maths and English as well as working with them as part of character-building group activities.
