Your Life Story: Digital art competition and event

Care Experienced Art

On Tuesday 6 June the University of Liverpool will be hosting an event dedicated to care experienced researchers and artistic expression.

The event has been brought together by a group of PhD researchers at the University of Liverpool and Liverpool John Moores University, professionals working within the field of children’s social care, and the Your Life Your Story charity.

There will be inspirational talks from creative champion for children in care, Steven Russell, creative workshops with lived-experience practitioner, Saira-Jayne Jones, and research presentations from care experienced PhD students.

The event has already received lots of support, and 60 guests from across the UK will be in attendance. These include individuals with lived experience of the care system, Managing Directors of Social Services, representatives from Local Authorities, researchers, professionals, and charity organisations working within the field.

Get involved

The event organisers are looking for digital submissions of art by care experienced artists, which will be exhibited in a pop-up gallery on the day – with a prize fund of £100 to be won by the artist voted best in show.

There is also a call for students with an interest in photography and/or filmmaking to volunteer and help document the day – providing an amazing opportunity to enhance your portfolios and promote your work to a wide audience.

Please contact Amy Mook by email at a.mook@liverpool.ac.uk or Sally Peplow at s.peplow@liverpool.ac.uk if you would like to find out more, and to submit your artwork or to help document the day.
