Students running on campus

As well as being a great way to make new friends and socialise, regular exercise can improve your mood, aid concentration and increase your energy levels, so why not take a look at the range of sports clubs you can join this September.

With free access to sports clubs from 23 September until 8 October at Sport Liverpool, you can try something new like sky diving or skiing, or try out for some team sports like basketball or rugby. Being part of a club gives plenty of opportunities to get involved in socials, competitions and events throughout the year.

Join the Sport Liverpool Team in the Sports Centre to this Thursday, 21 September, 10-6pm and Friday 22 September, 10-4pm, to meet members from over 50 clubs you can choose from.

The competitive edge

If competing is your thing, many of the Sport Liverpool Teams offer competitive matches and meetings. Organised by BUCS (the governing body for higher education sport), weekly fixtures and events take place throughout the academic year as our teams travel and compete with other North West institutions. Fixtures usually take place on a Wednesday afternoon and events at weekends.

Varsity competition and Christie Championships

Varsity is a competition between University of Liverpool and Liverpool John Moore’s University that has been running since 1993, and in 2023 Liverpool won for the eighth consecutive year.

Christie Championships is battle of northern Universities between Liverpool, Leeds and Manchester going back to 1886 making it one of the oldest inter-varsity competition after the Oxford-Cambridge battle. Can Liverpool retain their home title next year at Manchester?

Keep an eye out for more info and dates for this year’s competitions.
