The Liverpool Confucius Institute (LCI), is hosting a Chinese New Year Gala to celebrate the Year of the Dragon in St George’s Hall on Friday 9 February.
The magnificent evening gala will feature a traditional dragon dance, martial arts demonstrations, a lion dance, music and theatre.
Young people from local schools will be performing songs in Chinese, while students from the University of Liverpool and Hope University together with professional artists from the Chinese community will be performing in a range of musical ensembles from piano recitals to musical theatre.
To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the city of Liverpool’s twinning with Shanghai, there will also be speeches from local dignitaries, including the Deputy Lord Mayor, Cllr Richard Kemp CBE, Pro Vice Chancellor for Education at the University of Liverpool Professor Gavin Brown, and a video message from Shanghai.
The LCI works with local schools and community groups throughout the year to organise a range of cultural events from calligraphy to dragon boat racing.
Their Annual Chinese New Year Gala, is one of LCI’s most prestigious and anticipated events which has been running since 2016.
