Think up while you drink up

The Pint of Science festival returns for another year. Tickets are NOW on sale for the world’s largest festival of public science talks.

On from Monday 13 – Wednesday 15 May 2024, more than 40 University of Liverpool scientists, researchers and academics will take to the stage in venues across Liverpool and Wirral including Leaf, Future Yard, Tempest and the Ship and Mitre. From the surveillance state to how a cow and a spreadsheet could stop the next pandemic, there is something to satisfy everyone’s thirst for knowledge.

The full programme can be found here and talks include:

Why are you hungry?
Bringing the Beetles Back to Liverpool
Liverpool’s Bug-Busting Trailblazers
Giving Birth: A Risky Business?
From your phone to the abyss: mining in the deep sea
Honey I Shrunk the Collider: Making Tiny Particle Accelerators Using Lasers and Gas
What is AI?

Tickets cost £5 and are available here.

Laura Winters, Public Engagement Officer, Faculty of Health and Life Sciences, University of Liverpool said: “This is the 7th year we’ve been part of the Pint of Science festival and we’re excited to bring another fantastic programme of talks. This year, for the first time, we’re expanding the talks programme over to Wirral where we’re celebrating the research our scientists are doing in our leading School of Veterinary Science.

“Pint of Science invites people to learn something new and shines a spotlight on the University’s incredible work. The festival gives researchers the opportunity to share their stories, and audiences an opportunity to ask questions about science to those directly behind it.”

The three-day festival takes place simultaneously across the world with hundreds of cities participating. Pint of Science festival brings thousands of scientists and their research out of the lab and into pubs, cafes and community halls. Alongside the main talks, audience members can take part in the largest ever multi-city pub quiz. Teams will tackle science-themed trivia and go head-to-head with other cities interactively, in the hope of claiming the top spot in their city and across the UK.
