Celebrating equality and diversity at our student and graduate awards

Equality Plus EDI Awards

Last year, the Careers and Employability team introduced a new Equality+ programme for students that was designed to ensure that underrepresented student groups have equal access to resources, support and opportunities for their career development and future employment. 

The programme recently marked the end of its inaugural year with a celebration of equality, diversity and inclusivity (EDI) at the University of Liverpool’s first ever Equality Plus Awards.

Hosted in the Victoria Gallery and museum, the ceremony recognised the contribution of students, graduates and staff who have been involved actively breaking down barriers related to equality, diversity and inclusion.

Additionally, five student and one graduate were commended at the awards; Dr. Adedayo Adebisi, Rebecca Hill, Kenneth Archeampong, Zack Walker and Noura Qusairy.

Director of Careers and Employability Iwan Williams emphasised the importance of addressing disparities faced by underrepresented student groups, especially as they transition into the workforce.  

He said: “We have a responsibility to effect change, and initiatives like the EQ+ Awards serve as catalysts for meaningful connections between our talented students and forward-thinking employers committed to EDI principles.” 

The Equality+ programme continues , with internships, events, resources and an employability fund to support students who face barriers to access the tools and experiences they need to grow and develop their skills.
